Region (data centre)

Definition

Large cloud and AI providers (An AI provider runs language models and sells access to them, for example OpenAI (ChatGPT), Anthropic (Claude) or Google (Gemini).) run data centres in several regions. If you choose a region, your inputs are processed and stored there, as far as the provider commits to this for the chosen service.

What it means for you

An EU or Swiss region is an option only if the provider offers it for the chosen model. The interview asks where your important data lives today.
