A Markdown file is an ordinary text file ending in .md. A hash (#) at the start of a line makes a heading, an asterisk (*) a list item. Any text program can open the file.
Language models (A language model is the actual AI behind an AI assistant: it has learned from a great deal of text and writes an answer to an input.) read and write Markdown well. That is why instructions for AI tools, such as skills, are often Markdown files.
